Reflective practice
'Reflection is like opening a window into yourself – to your thoughts, feelings and concerns about your experiences. It is a process of learning and developing through self-awareness' (Lowe et al 2007).Reflective practice has been defined as searching to understand, examine and explore one’s own actions, feelings and beliefs relating to one’s work. The purpose of reflection is to consolidate and enhance practice through self-awareness and critique (Schon 1983).

- Gain knowledge of reflection and how it might enhance your midwifery practice
- Outline the types of reflection that can be used and when to use them
- Identify approaches to reflective practice
- Gain experience of using reflective models to develop your own practice
